Colors TV’s upcoming show Neerja that stars Sneha Wagh, Kamya Punjabi and Myra Waikul in the lead roles is bringing in a very bold concept with the show. Theshow will show case the story of lives of women living in a brothel and will show how a mother shield her young and beautiful daughter from the eyes of the ladies on the brothel who believe that the child too will grow up to join the profession.
In an exclusive chat with India Forums on the launch of the show we asked Kamya Punjabi, who is essaying the character of a Brothel runner in the show about any on or offscreen research for her character and the actress said, ”Well, I think it is an actor’s responsibility to research about whatever role they are offered. The moment you think that you do not need to do their research, is when you are not doing it properly. I definitely do it. During the time of Shakti too I met a lot of transgenders to know how their lives are, more than the society, I tried knowing how their families behaved, were they accepting? I tried knowing their lives and this time too I have tried doing the same. I went to their house, I tried understanding their lives, their obligations too. I like to do that. it is not that I want to draw any inspirations for my character from there or that I will imbibe anything I saw in the show. honestly, there was nothing I saw that I will imbibe in my character. Infact, I saw a mirror. There is so much of struggle, so much of pain. I believe that despite all this they still do not have a place in the society and it is very painful. I wanted to know and understand their lives and I did that. However, you will not see any such compulsions in Didun.”
