Amitabh Bachchan continues to make waves as the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16, one of television’s most celebrated quiz shows. In a recent episode aired , the legendary actor engaged with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 stars Kartik Aaryan and Vidya Balan. During this episode, Bachchan fondly recalled his admiration for veteran actress Waheeda Rehman and expressed his regret at never having worked alongside the iconic Meena Kumari.
He was discussing the 1962 cult film Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam. Big B said, “I never got the opportunity to work with Meena Kumari ji”. In Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam, there’s a song – Na jaao saiyaan where she performed so gracefully that I found myself watching her continuously. The art of sitting in one place quietly, singing the song and coupled with her radiance, the effects used to be marvellous.
Bachchan reminisced about the filmmaking style of that era, noting how long shots were often utilized, which he found captivating compared to the rapid pacing of contemporary cinema. He highlighted the artistry in Waheeda Rehman’s performance, praising a particular close-up shot that required multiple takes to capture its essence.
In addition to his reflections on classic cinema, Bachchan has recently appeared in the action crime drama Vettaiyan, directed by TG Gnanavel and featuring a star-studded cast including Rajinikanth, Fahadh Faasil, and Manju Warrier. Released on October 10, 2024, the film has garnered mixed reviews, with critics praising its impactful first half and Rajinikanth’s performance, while pointing out weaknesses in the latter part.
