Two months after releasing its first teaser, the makers of Freedom at Midnight have unveiled the second teaser, offering a glimpse into a pivotal moment in Indian history. While the initial teaser focused on Jawaharlal Nehru’s selection as Congress President over Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the new teaser highlights the rift between Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Mahatma Gandhi.
The two-and-a-half-minute video transports viewers to 1920, during a Congress Party session in Nagpur discussing Gandhi’s non-cooperation movement. It depicts Jinnah’s departure from the party following a disagreement with Gandhi and his subsequent demand for a separate nation—Pakistan. Based on the acclaimed book by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins, Freedom at Midnight aims to bring to life the critical events surrounding India’s freedom struggle.
Freedom at Midnight is being directed by Nikkhil Advani, marking his second project this year after John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh-starrer Vedaa. Talking about the show, Nikkhil in a statement noted that the show is rooted in thorough research, capturing the emotional and political turmoil of the era. He stated, “The series offers a deep exploration of key historical figures, with well-developed characters that allow the actors to fully immerse themselves in their roles. It’s not just about politics; it also delves into the human experiences, emotions, and challenges that shaped this transformative period.”
