In 2020, the cast of Mahabharata reunited on Kapil Sharma’s show, but Mukesh Khanna, who played Bhishma, declined to appear. He previously called Kapil ‘uncultured,’ which stirred controversy. Recently, Mukesh shared the reasons behind his aversion to Kapil Sharma during a conversation.
Speaking to Bollywood Thikana, Mukesh Khanna said, “I don’t like Bigg Boss or The Kapil Sharma Show because of the vulgarity, but he (Kapil Sharma) is a terrific entertainer, no doubt.” The actor mentioned two specific incidents that contributed to his aversion to the comedian.
He elaborated, “There were two incidents… I won’t say they made me ‘anti-Kapil,’ but my vibrations didn’t match with him. The person might be good, but you don’t feel comfortable with him. I don’t think he even realises it, but I had told Krushna Abhishek. They used to do skits on Comedy Circus, and the mistake Kapil made was that he wore Shaktimaan’s costume, and in front of him was a girl, with a bed shown on the side.”
Mukesh Khanna expressed his frustration about how the character was portrayed. He felt that the character, which was meant to be righteous, was being misrepresented by suggesting that he wouldn’t pursue a girl because he was busy, implying he would otherwise be wooing them. He believed this was done purely for comedic effect. He reached out to Krushna to inquire about the act, and Krushna informed him that he was originally supposed to perform it, but Kapil had taken it from him.
He added that the second incident occurred at an award show where he was sitting in the front row. Kapil, who was just starting out in the industry at the time, sat next to him for about 10 to 20 minutes but didn’t greet him at all. After taking his award, he just left. These two incidents were on his mind, which led him to describe Kapil as uncultured. He questioned why Kapil considered himself so important and noted that when someone behaves like that, they lose respect.
Meanwhile, Kapil Sharma is currently focused on the second season of The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix. This season features guests like Alia Bhatt, Vedang Raina, Karan Johar, Saif Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Jr NTR among the first to appear.
