After the success of Taj: Divided by Blood, the makers have renewed the show for another season. The second season begins fifteen years after season one, and charters the journey of Salim, who has returned from his exile and is now determined to become the next emperor of the Mughal empire and defeat his father Akbar. The eight-part series has Naseeruddin Shah reprising his role of King Akbar, Dharmendra as Shaikh Salim Chishti, Aashim Gulati as Prince Salim, Shubham Kumar Mehra as Prince Daniyal, Sandhya Mridul as Queen Jodha Bai, Zareena Wahab as Queen Salima, and Rahul Bose as Mirza Hakim. The series will start streaming on June 2.

The Hansal Mehta series Scoop is headlined by actor Karishma Tanna. She essays the role of an ambitious crime journalist Jagruti Pathak who becomes a suspect in the murder of a fellow journalist. The series is inspired by journalist J Dey’s murder and Jigna Vora’s biographical book Behind The Bars In Byculla: My Days in Prison. It also stars Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Harman Baweja, and Prosenjit Chatterjee, among others.

Mumbaikar: Jio Cinemas

Santosh Sivan’s Mumbaikar is a remake of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s debut film Maanagaram. The film, starring Vikrant Massey, Vijay Sethupathi, Ranvir Shorey, Tanya Maniktala, Sanjay Mishra, Sachin Khedekar, and Hridhu Haroon, will have a direct-to-OTT release. The film’s plot revolves around the kidnapping of the son of ‘Mumbai Ka Don’ (Ranvir Shorey). Four youngsters, played by Vijay Sethupathi, Vikrant Massey, Raghav Bhinani, and Hridhu Haroon, claim to be the kidnappers but who the real kidnapper is will be known when the film releases on Jio Cinemas.

Asur 2: Jio Cinemas

The wait is over. The fans of the thriller series Asur, who were eagerly waiting for its second instalment after the cliffhanger ending of the first season, will finally get to watch it on June 1 on Jio Cinemas. The series has Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti reprising their roles of Dhananjay Rajput and Nikhil Nair respectively. Actors Ridhi Dogra, Anupriya Goenka, Amey Wagh, Meiyang Chang and Gaurav Arora have also returned to the series. The synopsis of Asur 2 reads, “The devastating events of Season 1 take a heavy toll on everyone involved in the hunt for Asur. Season 2 chronicles the rise of the dark side and continues the high-octane chase as the CBI is racing against time to gather evidence and hunt down the serial killer.”

2018: SonyLIV

After its theatrical success, the Malayalam drama will stream online on SonyLIV. Starring Tovino Thomas, Asif Ali, Lal, Kunchako Boban among others, the film is based on the 2018 Kerala floods that led to the loss of lives and a huge loss of property. In its review of the film, The Indian Express had mentioned that 2018 – Everyone Is A Hero, instead of following a straightforward plot with ups and downs, is like a beautifully crafted necklace, with each incident and occurrence adding to its charm. “2018 presents a heartwarming tale of unity and resilience that give goosebumps at every juncture,” the review read.

School of lies: Disney Plus Hotstar

The upcoming Disney Plus Hotstar series is said to be based on true events and circles around a missing schoolboy. The series is headlined by an ensemble cast including actors Nimrat Kaur, Aamir Bashir, Geetika Vidya Ohlyan, Sonali Kulkarni and Jitendra Joshi. It is created by Ishani Banerjee and Avinash Arun Dhaware, and is directed by Avinash Arun Dhaware. The official logline of School of Lies reads, “What happens when the safest place for a child is no longer safe enough?”

Never Have I Ever S4: Netflix
Streaming on: June 8

The fourth and final season of Mindy Kaling’s teen drama, Never Have I Ever will drop on Netflix on June 8. The series will chronicle the lead character Devi’s quest to finish high school and join Princeton, while dealing with the attention of three boys, her previous crushes Ben and Paxton, and an all new and ripped ‘Hot Pocket’. The series is led by actors Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Darren Barnet, Poorna Jagannathan, and Megan Suri among others.

Bloody Daddy: Jio Cinemas

Ali Abbas Zafar’s action-thriller Bloody Daddy is headlined by Shahid Kapoor. The story of the film unfolds during one fateful night when Kapoor faces off against Gurugram’s white-collar drug lords, deceitful friends, ruthless crime boss, murderous narcs, and both corrupt and honest cops. The film is a remake of the 2011 French film Sleepless Night. Besides Shahid, the film also stars Ronit Roy, Sanjay Kapoor and Rajeev Khandelwal.

Extraction 2: Netflix
Streaming on: June 16

A sequel of the star-led actioner Extraction is coming to Netflix on June 16. The movie will once again see Golshifteh Farahani and Rudhraksh Jaiswal in action along with Chris Hemsworth. Bankrolled by the Russo Brothers and helmed by Sam Hargrave, Extraction 2 has Tyler Rake (Hemsworth) going out of his way to protect a woman with two children. As per the trailer, he seems to have some connection with the woman. However, we are intrigued to know how Rake has come back from the dead as he was shot in the neck in the first instalment, which was released in 2020.

Kerala Crime Files: Disney Plus Hotstar

Kerala Crime Files, the first-ever Malayalam web series from Disney Plus Hotstar, stars Lal and Aju Varghese in the lead roles. It revolves around the investigation of the murders of the sex workers. The official synopsis of the series reads, “Their sole lead is a name and a fake address inscribed in the lodge’s ledger – Shiju, Parayil Veedu Neendakara. The crux of the series revolves around the police’s efforts to crack this intricate case, promising a narrative filled with twists and turns.”

The Witcher S3: Netflix
Streaming on: June 29

Henry Cavill-starrer The Witcher makes a comeback with its third season on June 29. The first five episodes of the season will stream on June 29 and the remaining three episodes will stream on July 27. The new season of the show is inspired by the second instalment in Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher book series, Time of Contempt.

The Night Manager (Part 2): Disney Plus Hotstar
Streaming on: June 30

The first part of the Disney Plus Hotstar series The Night Manager intrigued the viewers upon its release in February. Now, the remaining episodes of the series will start streaming from June 30. The show is an official adaptation of the 2016 thriller of the same name which released in the UK and revolves around Shaan Sengupta (Aditya Roy Kapur), a former navy lieutenant, who is employed as a night manager at a hotel in Dhaka. He is eventually recruited by the Intelligence services to infiltrate an arms dealer’s inner circle. The series is led by actors Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sobhita Dhulipala and Tillotama Shome.
